Krill Oil DX

Krill Oil DX is an extract of Antarctic krill, known as Euphausia Superba, a species of Krill found in the Antarctic waters of the Southern Ocean. Following its harvesting and primary processing (which is done on the boat), Krill Oil DX is composed of 4 major components:

  • Phospholipids Of Omega-3
  • Triglycerides of Omega-3
  • Astaxanthin
  • Choline

These Omega-3 fatty acids (FA) attached to phospholipids or Triglycerides and antioxidants, such as: astaxanthin, vitamin A and vitamin. Krill oil was subject to a battery of clinical and pre-clinical trials, suggesting unique effects on health, while maintaining a good safety profile. These studies have been examining the effect of Krill oil on multiple indications including; chronic inflammation, cognitive function, fatty liver disease, joint health and more. Unlike fish oil, a major portion of omega-3 fatty acids in Krill oil is conjugated (chemically linked) to phospholipids, which seems to have a different and in some case better absorption and utilization than other sources of Omega-3.

Antarctic krill (Euphausia Superba), is a shrimp-like invertebrate (crustacean), that lives in large schools, called swarms which can reach densities of 10,000-30,000 individual krill per cubic meter. Krill, in terms of biomass, is the most abundant animal species on the planet (approximately 500 million tons). All fish stocks are limited and exhaustible and the objectives of any eco-sustainable approach would be to maintain human benefits from fish stocks while preserving the ability of fish stocks to replace themselves and the integrity of ecosystems.

Krill is found throughout the Southern Ocean and is the main food for fish, penguins, seals, whales, albatrosses. The performance of these predators depends on krill availability.

The Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) is an International treaty between 25 nations that seeks to manage' the preservation of the species and the diversity and stability of the entire Antarctic marine ecosystem. The CCAMLR was first established in 1982 in response to global concerns about the effect of krill fishing activities.

The total krill biomass is estimated to be between 125 and 750 million metric tons, which is estimated to be twice the weight of all human on earth 1. Krill for direct human consumption, in the form of krill oil supplements, amount to less than 0.1% of the precautionary catch limit set by CCAMLR.
